Every week, new movies are released around the globe. Some of them make big bucks while the others end up being a dud. Convincing storylines and action-packed scenes might turn a movie into a big hit but the ability of an actor can either make or break the film. There is a technique of acting called “Method acting” which has been quite popular among the film industry and Bollywood has used this technique in quite a few movies as well. method acting can be defined as “a style of acting in which an actor tries to understand and feel the emotions of the character he or she represents,” to give the maximum originality to the viewers.
This list is focused on actors, who went the extra mile to get into the skin of their character. They didn’t just act in them but ended up affecting their mental and physical health as well. Most of the actors on the list are names you will recognize immediately.
1. Aamir Khan (Dangal)
Aamir Khan’s full name is Mohammed Aamir Hussain Khan and is an Indian actor, director, filmmaker and television talk-show host who was born on 14 March 1965. Aamir Khan is often known as Mr. Perfectionist by his fans and appeared as a child actor in ‘Yaadon Ki Baaraat’ but began his professional career 11 years later and bagged the fame through his superhit film Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak. He is a superstar who can go beyond the limits to get perfection in his role and for that, he doesn’t care about even his health.
His film Dangal, Aamir had two opposite looks to nail. In the first few scenes of the movie, he had to look extremely fit whereas, for the other half, he had to play the role of the middle-aged one and had to look out of shape and fat. For this role, he had to gain 20 kgs to be able to reach his weight to 97 kgs. Due to his outrageous transformation, he even had to suffer from breathing problems along with many other issues.
2. Rajkummar Rao – Trapped
Trapped was a film about a young man getting trapped in his own house in a high-rise building. To be able to get in the role, he had to live on just coffee and carrots for about 20 days and due to extreme fatigue, he faced blackouts. Despite this, immediately after famously shedding many kilos by starving himself for his role in Trapped, he had to gain extra kilos for his upcoming web series “boss”.
3. Kangana Ranaut
She is an Indian actress and director who had worked in various blockbuster movies like Queen, Manikarnika, Tanu Weds Manu, etc. she is well known for her superb acting skills and work. For her upcoming biopic film Thalaivi, the actress said that she had not only worked upon the apparel and appearances of the character but has also undergone a physical transformation. According to her, she had to put on six kilos weight and had even taken ‘hormone pills’ to gain weight around belly and thighs to be able to get into character physically.
4. Ranveer Singh (Padmavati)
He opted for a method acting in his film Padmavati and locked himself into a room and went completed isolated to understand the mannerisms of the character ‘Alauddin Khilji’. In fact, according to the reports, post his film, he even had to take the help of a psychiatrist to get mentally stable after performing such a violent role since it started impacting his real life.
5. Randeep Hooda (Sarabjit)
Well, Sarabjit happened to be a film that can make anyone cry their heart out. And for this biopic, Randeep Hooda tortured himself to play the character of Sarabjeet. He used to be 94 kg, muscular man and had to lose 18 kgs in 20 days which led him through both physical and mental torture.
6. Ranveer Singh (Lootera)
Ranveer Singh is an actor who established himself in the Bollywood industry in a short period. And, not many of us might know the fact that for a painful scene in the film Lootera, Ranveer literally pinned his stomach with staples, so that the pain visible on his face looks completely real.
7. Hrithik Roshan (Guzaarish)
Hrithik’s physique and looks are something that could make anyone fall for him. But only a few of us might know the fact that for his role as a paralyzed magician in the film Guzaarish, he had to massively gain the weight. Apart from this, he was also suffering from health issues despite which he went for intense training of 10 weeks and was back fitter for Krrish 3.
8. Farhan Akhtar (Bhaag Milkha Bhaag)
Bhaag Milkha Bhaag is a film where Farhan had to both gain and lose weight at the same time. For his role as a soldier, he had to gain 8 kilos and for the role of a super athlete Milkha Singh, had to shed 10 kilos to get that muscular and sculpted body.
9. Bhumi Pednekar (Dum Laga Ke Haisha)
From being a model to performing in the film Dum Laga Ke Haisha, Bhumi had to gain extra weight to get into the role and post the film it was amazing to see her getting back in shape.
